As you may know, the home of Joy Factory Films is the Kamloops Innovation Centre. The KIC Team provides a community of tech entrepreneurs that are passionate about helping each other succeed. They offer affordable programs that guide, coach and mentor early stage ventures, collaborative and shared office spaces, and host, facilitate, initiate, partner, sponsor, and generally support all sorts of events that help to grow the tech community in Kamloops and our region. Everyone in our building is really great and together, we create such a great community of like-minded, tech oriented entrepreneurs.
If you haven’t heard yet, Kamloops Innovation is holding an incredible contest – Built In Kamloops. Open to all early stage start ups from around the world, this opportunity can give a budding, business mind mentorship, community, space, and $10,000 in cold, hard cash. With six months of assistance, your business idea could blossom into something absolutely amazing. The deadline to apply is coming up soon, on May 26th, but there’s still time to submit your credentials. This opportunity will give you a two bedroom fully furnished downtown apartment, mentorship through KIC’s Venture Acceleration Program, $10,000.00 cash, a community of instant friends and family, and many more reasons to love Kamloops. Sounds too good to be true, right?
We even made this awesome promotional video for this contest. While filming, we visited several locations across Kamloops including iTel, Kamloops Innovation Centre, Thompson Rivers University, Riverside Park and The Art We Are, experiencing sun and rain. We were under a bit of a time crunch… So, we had to cut out a lot of the original spots in order to get everyone and everything in. Fortunately, we were able to make the most of our locations, using the same spot from a different angle in order to get the most out of the day.
It was a huge, chaotic adventure, like a large family trying to take a decent family photo, but we were reminded of why we love Kamloops. Our friends at the Kamloops Innovation Centre reflect the character, joy, and awesomeness that is Kamloops.
So what do you say? Come be awesome with us!
Fun facts about this edit:
– “Or the world!” is dubbed!
– iTel actually has scooters to help people get around faster!
– In one of the scenes the actor looked away while saying their line… So, Josef rotoscoped their eyes to keep facing forward!
– The coaster flips and hoodie catch in the “swag” part only took one take!
– The outro “Built In Kamloops Dot Ca” took over twenty takes!
– There were over eighty audio tracks (Which made sorting a nightmare!)
