Kamloops Innovation is nationally recognized as a hub for innovation and entrepreneurial activity in BC’s Interior. This year, the tech centred non-profit organization revitalized their popular annual event Tech Brew – to Tech Fest – with a new way to celebrate technology while honouring the innovations of the past. With this in mind, our film fam and many other excited faces jumped aboard the historic 2141 steam train at the Kamloops Heritage Railway in downtown Kamloops.
A cutting-edge innovation for the time, the 2141 was one of 25 trains of her kind built for the Canadian Northern Railway in 1912. Originally used for freight the restored steam train is now an iconic interactive piece of Canadian history that became the backdrop for our exploration of modern tech used by the startups and entrepreneurs in our community.
We had a really fun time connecting with entrepreneurs and tech lovers from across British Columbia and even from Belgium, France, Germany, and The Netherlands.
We sampled tasty eats from local food trucks like The Happy Camper, Frenchies Poutinerie, and The Waffle Laundry. Aboard the train, we found a secret car filled with free popcorn. YUM!
Check out Yahsir, who won the Kamloops Innovation’s ticket giveaway on Instagram. He looks pretty excited to be on an old fashioned steam train. …And of course, popcorn!
We heard what’s new from our friends and other tech sponsors like BC Lotteries Corporation….…and we were in awe of Lincoln Smith’s beard. As always. (He’s the Executive Director of Kamloops Innovation!)
We danced the night away to the chill vibes of local talent, At Mission Dolores.
And we travelled across dimensions and time through each historic car aboard the Spirit of Innovation.
What can we say! That was a wild ride!
Joy Factory Films was proud to be the digital media sponsor for this iconic event. Our Communications Manager, Hope, was onsite capturing the evening via an Instagram takeover with Kamloops Innovation and promoted the event across various social media platforms leading up to the event. If you are interested in learning about this kind of coverage of your own business, send us a message!
See you all next year at Tech Fest 2019!
